Overwhelming Majority Believe District on “Wrong Track”; Pocketbook Issues Dominate Voter Concern

May 10th, 2012

Tacoma, WA – A new poll of 583 registered voters in the 6th Congressional District reveals 57% believe the District is on the wrong track, with nearly 80% identifying “pocket-book issues” including employment (39.6%), the economy (15.4%), taxes (15.3%), and standard of living (9.0%) as the most important problems facing the district.

When asked the best way to balance the federal budget, 60.4% believe spending should be cut rather than raise taxes. When asked what type of Congressman we should send to Washington, D.C., 53.6% want someone who will stop adding to the federal budget with pork-barrel projects, while only 32.6% want someone who brings back federal dollars.

“This poll confirms what I have been hearing from people throughout the 6th District for months,” said Jesse Young, a Republican candidate for the 6th District. “They want a Congressman who will go to Washington, DC and work hard to remove the government restrictions that hamper our ability to create jobs and opportunities.”

The survey, by Williams and Associates in conjunction with Pulse Opinion Research, was conducted from April 25 – 26, 2012 of 583 registered voters in the new 6th Congressional District. The poll has a margin for error of +/- 4%.
